Editorial scope: This guide uses current official sources and avoids guarantees. Operator policies, inventory and prices must be rechecked for the exact booking.
A cabin mate's cancellation can change occupancy, fare and benefits even before final payment. There is no universal outcome. Contact the cruise line or booking agent before cancelling or replacing anyone and request the available options in writing.
Freeze informal changes
Do not transfer money to a replacement traveler, remove a guest online or promise the cabin at the old price until the reservation owner has confirmed the consequences. Save the original confirmation, payment record and applicable terms.
Ask four precise questions
- What is the new total if one guest remains?
- What cancellation amount applies to the departing guest today?
- Is a name substitution allowed for this fare and market, and what fees or repricing apply?
- What happens to packages, insurance, air, transfers and promotional benefits?
Ask for a new invoice or confirmation rather than relying on a phone summary.
Why the answer varies
NCL's 2026 guest contract states that name changes may be treated as cancellations. Royal Caribbean publishes market-specific timing and fees. Virgin's current cancellation and guest-change options vary by fare class and proximity to sailing. Any article giving one guaranteed answer would be misleading.
Protect the remaining traveler
Compare paying the revised solo total, moving to an eligible solo cabin, finding a permitted replacement, or cancelling under the actual terms. Insurance may help only if the event and traveler are covered by the policy; read the policy or contact the insurer. SoloCruz cannot alter a reservation or guarantee that a replacement will be accepted.
Use SoloCruz after choosing the sailing
Open the live cruise catalogue, choose an exact departure and publish a cabin-mate search only after checking the final booking terms. SoloCruz does not sell the cruise, collect the cruise fare, run background checks or guarantee compatibility.
